Special Event:

“The Sinking of the Titanic
JACK Quartet, with Payton MacDonald and Young Voices of Colorado
Sunday, April 15, 2012
4:00 p.m.

In Collaboration with: University of Denver’s Newman Center Presents, Historic Denver, Inc., History Colorado, The Colorado Historical Society, and Young Voices of Colorado

On April 14, 1912, the RMS Titanic struck an iceberg at 11:40 PM in the North Atlantic and sank at 2:20 AM on April 15th. Of the 2,201 people on board, only 711 were to reach their intended destination, New York. Recognizing the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, this special event performance will feature the JACK Quartet, Alarm Will Sound’s Payton MacDonald, and Young Voices of Colorado, performing an arrangement of Gavin Bryar’s The Sinking of the Titanic.

MacDonald will also be commissioned to compose a new work in honor of Margaret “Molly” Brown, an extraordinary woman whose fame and importance in Colorado history extends well beyond her survival of the famous shipwreck. This new work is tentatively entitled Lifeboat No. 6.
